August 24th, 2010 - Black Locus
I did a short walk on our HSP late this morning to see where Nate & his crew has been killing black locust. They growth is in the old black locust area - due south of the groove of oaks. Thanks again to MVC for their efforts in killing this no good pest on our HSP! I looked at the sumac clone in the front of the prairie - lots of it but not very big - yet! Yes, I did see a few bees enjoying themselves & the butterfly on a blazing star. Please enjoy. Be ready to help with the killing of the sumac when the call is sent out. Peace, Pete
September 9th,2010 - Sumac
Nate Fayram - MVC - let the FHSP use 2 spray bottles of Garlon 4E mixed with oil and 2 loppers. Bob Leum & Pete Putnam started cutting the sumac clone this afternoon. The sumac is located in the field south of the front fence & east of the past stand of pine trees and going east to almost the front gate. Bob & Pete started on the east side moving to the west. On team member cuts & the other sprays the stump(s). Leave the trees where they are cut. The spray & loppers will be in Pete's garage next to his work bench. If the garage is locked, they will be in the tool shed on the northside of the garage. Please return the tools & spray so that others can use them. This is a good chance for FHSP to be of direct help to the HSP with little effort or time. An hour or so will make a big difference! Jay & Diane are going to cut next week. Please log your hours on the clip board attached to the kiosk. Thanks, Pete
October 10th, 2010 - Sand Prairie Fog
Jim Rogala led about ten people in collecting seeds on the HSP. The seed will be planted on the HSP next spring. Much thanks to the TPE & Jim for a good job! Thanks!
April 12,2011 - Pasque Flowers in Bloom
Great news! The
Pasqueflowers are in bloom! Barb, & I took a short walk this
afternoon & WOW – There they are! Spring is truly here – OK – it
might snow .... Just walk straight out the main gate toward the back gate
& you will see flowers on both side of the path near the lone white
pine. Also, on the old road on the east side of the pines that were!
Look for other places too!
